4000. Four thousand. FOUR THOUSAND. I’ve done a blog in the past where I talked about how amazed I was about the number of people dying from Covid-19, but this number is really hard to wrap my brain around. 4000 people dying in 24 hours. It’s just crazy. When this all started last Spring, and someone predicted that 100 to 200,000 people could die from this, I thought that prediction was nonsense. We were at 10 or 15,000 at the time, so me and all my wisdom predicted that we might have as many as 50 or 60,000 die, but “certainly not 200,000!” And now here we are a few months later and we’re almost to 400,000.
4000 people dying would be like 27% of my hometown disappearing. In 2008, it was big news when the 4000th American troop died in Iraq. It took over 5 years for that to happen. We just had 4000 die in 24 hours. 4000 is an astronomical number as far as I’m concerned. I have 54 followers of my blog currently. If I woke up tomorrow and there were suddenly 4000 I’m pretty sure my head would spin around. And what’s worse, in this sensationalistic world of ours, the 4000 deaths isn’t even the top story in the news of the day. I did another blog not too long ago about how excited I was about 2020 being done, but now I’m not so sure 2021 will be much better. Lean on your Faith fellow Christians, because it looks like we’re in for a bumpy ride.
Thank you for reading my 59th blog.
