When I was about 9 or 10 I started collecting baseball cards, and I’ve been hooked ever since. There’s something exciting about finding rare ones unexpectedly, and that’s mainly because there’s dollar figures attached to the rare and sought after cards. The value of cards has grown exponentially over the decades, and sometimes I daydream about the past and, “Oh if we’d only known!”
One of my favorite daydreams is about what if I’d been around in 1952? Someone who scrimped and saved up $10.00 in 1952 and put all of it into Topps baseball card packs, and then saved them in perfect shape till this year would soon realize that their $10 investment is now worth over $1,000,000! That’s no exaggeration. A million bucks (or more) for a bunch of old cardboard with pictures on it. How crazy is that?
I’m sure there’s something being produced this very week…
