That’s right. I have never sent a text message. I’ve read a few before when I thought it might be something important, but I’ve never sent one. I’m trying to be the oldest American to have never sent a text. I know a lot of elderly people will have to die off before I can have that title, and I know they’re going to have to build some kind of really sophisticated lie detector test that is super accurate for me to prove I’ve never sent a text, but when those things happen they’ll hook me up to the ol’ Truthatron 4000 and I’ll be world famous as the oldest person to have never sent a text!
I don’t know why I have this crusade, but I have it nonetheless. I don’t like seeing people with their nose glued to a little screen ( and yes I get the irony that many people are reading this on a little screen ). I just think the little screens are taking away from appreciation of the life that’s in front of you. It’s also ruining any kind of thorough and complete communication between you and your loved ones or potential friends/associates. You can’t type as much as you could say over a phone. And you can’t gauge mood and truthfulness like you could over a phone… or better yet, in person. I guess ultimately I’m just doing it (or not doing it in this case) to be different. Some people think I’m a weirdo because I don’t text, but I like to call it eccentric. …… Oh, who am I kidding? I’m a weirdo. But maybe God will be impressed. Maybe when I die and go to Heaven He’ll be like, “Hey Pete, come here. This is that guy I was telling you about! He never texted!” And Peter will say “Oh wow! Moses and I were talking about you just the other day!”
