I was watching “Lord of the Rings: Return of the King” recently, and an old idea came back to me. Why didn’t they just get the eagles to drop the ring in the lava??? They had big eagles that could have dropped it in, or dropped Gandalf at the entrance to the fiery pit, but they decided, instead, to let little hobbits take it and waste countless lives and lots of time and property in the meanwhile. I think the secret council needed to do more planning and less arguing. I feel our world is similar. We do too much arguing and not enough straight forward planning. The best plan is usually the simplest plan. Government needs money? Where’s the money? Oh, billionaires and millionaires. We’ll take more of their money. They’ll have plenty left over. Need to lose weight? Eat less and exercise more. Not getting the results you hoped for? Eat even less and exercise even more. Sad and lonely? Go be a friend and you will have friends. Want to be closer to God? Be closer to God. We over-complicate things. As the great Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “the law of nature is do the thing and you shall have the power.” You don’t have to sneak up on what you want. Just take the most direct route and don’t give up on yourself. Also, don’t make little hobbits traipse all over middle earth when a big bird could do the job in a fraction of the time. Thanks for reading my blog.
